Sheet-fed offset presses

Sheet-fed offset presses are the most used presses in the printing industry.

Sheet-fed offset presses are used in all sectors of the printing industry. Thousands of presses are installed all over the world in a variety of sizes, printing on one or both sizes’ of the substrates and with up to 20 printing units.

Sheet-fed offset presses are used for:
  • Commercial printing
  • Magazine printing
  • Book printing
  • Label printing
  • Package printing (folding carton)
  • Corrugated printing

The strength of the sheet-fed offset presses is their extreme flexibility. They can print on thin and thick substrates and a variety of sizes and qualities.

Sheet-fed offset presses are extremely productive. The fastest presses print today with up to 20,000 iph, and a job change can be performed in less than 5 minutes. Compared to digital printing presses, they are much faster as soon as the run length is above 250 copies and/or if the job contains of a lot of pages or elements.

The leading manufacturers are:
  • Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany
  • KBA, Radebeul, Germany
  • Manroland, Offenbach am Main, Germany
  • Komori, Tokyo, Japan
  • Ryobi-MHI, Hiroshima, Japan

Robots among sheet-offset printers
The use of sheet-offset presses generates a use of sheet cutters. This is where Yaskawa Levanto can be used.

The majority of sheet-fed offset printers also dispose over a range of finishing equipment, which needs to be robotized to increase the company’s overall productivity.
